About NMOP 2024
NMOP 2024 will be a special edition of our festival. Every participant will explore every aspect of music-making this year, including performing, improvising, composing, and collaborating with other participants and faculty. Our experiences at NMOP 2024 will be extensively documented through video and audio recordings, as well as through writing and visual art.
Curatorial Statement from Juraj Kojš, Interim-Artistic Director
New Music On The Point Festival 2024: An Artphibian Experience (AE)
Understanding the world in its networked complexity has inspired distinctly informed artistic explorations and practices. Motivated and even driven by the ecosystems of the NMOP site, a collaborative Artphibian Experience (AE) that expands to the domains of music, arts, movement and technologies (including AI) will emerge during the festival.
Co-creation and co-performance of the site-specific NMOP 2024 AE will begin with the studies of the site’s natural, historical and community aspects. We will then proceed to a formation of a joint library of impressions from which musical story telling will be constructed. The final AE event will be presented to and with the environment at the final day of the festival.
While the participants will be mentored to begin composing individual pieces inspired by the site, the primary focus will be given to the collaborative composition and performance.
About New Music On The Point
New Music On The Point brings together composers, performers, and musical experimenters for two weeks each June. In addition to chamber music concerts by NMOP’s outstanding performers, we engage directly with Vermont’s glorious natural environment through outdoor and site-specific performances. Point CounterPoint (NMOP’s home) is situated on Lake Dunmore beneath the Green Mountains of Vermont and under a nighttime sky filled with stars. There are rehearsal studios and practice cabins that dot the woods and rustic bunkbed cabins, most with lake views. Our kitchen staff serves three fresh, creative, locally-sourced, gourmet meals daily!
