The New Music On The Point Festival encourages imaginative collaboration among composers and performers, creating contemporary music in a glorious setting on the shores of Lake Dunmore in Vermont.  Our two-week program fosters collaborative music-making in a relaxing environment where aspiring musicians may explore and grow.

The NMOP 2016 Festival is open to participants (ages 18-35) in the following areas:

  • composition
  • flute
  • clarinet
  • oboe
  • bassoon
  • saxophone
  • violin
  • viola
  • violoncello
  • double bass
  • piano
  • classical guitar
  • voice
  • string quartet-in-residence

This year, a string quartet will be chosen by audition to attend NMOP as our quartet-in-residence.  This group will be coached by the JACK Quartet and will perform several student composer works, written for them by NMOP participant composers. They will also perform repertoire pieces on the Salon concerts and at community events.

All faculty and master artists work closely with the participants.  They give individual lessons as well as coaching chamber works and presenting seminars on their professional work.  Faculty performers “coach from within” on the participant composer works. The 2016 faculty are:

During our program, all participants engage in an interactive schedule of instruction, rehearsals, seminars  and concerts. Every day there is time for composing, practicing, rehearsing and spontaneous musical experiences. Each of the participating composers will have his/her new work premiered on the final concerts of the New Music On The Point Festival.

New Music On The Point is situated right on Lake Dunmore, VT, beneath the Green Mountains, and under a nighttime sky filled with stars. There are teaching/rehearsal studios and practice cabins that dot the woods, most with lake views, and rustic sleeping bunkbed cabins. Chef Steve and his staff serve locally-sourced, sometimes foraged, gourmet meals daily!
