Activities
Composer participants work closely with both Kathryn Alexander and Laura Schwendinger in a series of private lessons, seminars and workshops, as well as with our performance faculty and the participating instrumentalists and vocalists. The opportunity to work with the composition faculty and all performers is a significant and distinctive feature of New Music On The Point.
Instrumentalists work closely with the members of the JACK Quartet, as well as with our composition and vocal and piano faculty and the participating composers and vocalists. Instrumentalists have the opportunity for master class and/or private instruction, ensemble coaching, and open-rehearsals, as well as work-shopping new pieces by the composers.
Vocalists work closely with both Jennifer Beattie and Donna Loewy, as well as with our composition faculty and the participating composers and instrumentalists. Vocal seminars and workshops include an emphasis on diction, musicality, new music techniques, and art song and chamber music performance, as well as work-shopping new pieces by the composers. Singers receive private lessons and coachings, participate in Salon Night Concerts and Final Concerts, and have the opportunity to study traditional repertoire as well as contemporary works. Instruction is geared toward each singer’s specific needs, and individual attention is a huge benefit of the program, as we have a limited number of vocalist slots each season.
The interaction between our instrumental and vocal/piano faculty and all composers is integral to the emphasis we place on accessibility at New Music On The Point.
