New Music on the Point

SEPTEMBER RETREAT

September 13-17, 2026

Applications for the 2026 NMOP September Retreat will open on April 1.

About Our September Retreat

Started in 2025, our five-day September Retreat is an opportunity for early- and mid-career composers to compose, network and receive a high-quality recording of one of their new or pre-existing works by top contemporary music performers. This small group of composers works with our renowned performer artists and with each other to discover new musical ideas and share knowledge, while still having time and space to compose and relax. Participants are welcome to bring their partners and children to enjoy our beautiful lakeside campus, with boats, a floating dock, a small beach, badminton, ping pong, frisbee and more.

During the June Festival, we offer an intensive schedule of lessons, workshops, rehearsals, coachings and public performances, intended to create an unforgettable musical and educational experience for participants and audiences alike.

The September Retreat is primarily for early and mid-career composers (loosely interpreted), and does not accept performer participants. The September Retreat schedule is more relaxed, with emphasis on having time to compose as well as connect with other composers at similar points in their career paths. Our performer artists will rehearse and record works by participants, as well as offer workshops on various professional development and pedagogical topics.
